Antidepressants treat the symptoms of depression. In bipolar disorder, an antidepressant will be paired with a mood stabilizing medication (e.g. lithium, Depakote, Lamictal). Without the mood stabilizer, an antidepressant can actually cause a manic state for a person with bipolar disorder. There are many antidepressants on the market. Not every antidepressant is the same, and they have different properties. They all also have different potential side effects.
If you are taking the extended-release tablets, swallow them whole with a glass of water. The tablets must not be crushed. Do not break or chew them. For the dissolving granules, the contents of the packet have to be emptied on to the tongue and swallowed. However, it is believed that nausea and vomiting can be avoided, if Mucinex tablets are taken with meals. Staying hydrated will also help in alleviating dry mouth and lowering the risk of kidney stones that is associated with the prolonged use of guaifenesin.
Another limitation is that results from a single-site study may not generalize to all treatment settings and alcohol-dependent populations. Nevertheless, generalizability is supported by the absence of associations between demographic variables with any outcome variable, the high ratio of randomized to evaluated volunteers (150:185), and the broad range of alcoholism severity included in our sample. However, none of our community-dwelling volunteers required detoxification. 44 Indeed, our participants typically drank 5 days per week and were able to achieve the required 3 days of abstinence prior to randomization simply with monitoring and advice to taper drinking to further reduce risk.
Elimination: GBP is eliminated from the systemic circulation by renal excretion as unchanged drug. GBP is not appreciably metabolized in humans. GBP elimination half-life is 5 to 7 hours and is unaltered by dose or following multiple dosing. GBP elimination rate constant, plasma clearance, and renal clearance are directly proportional to creatinine clearance. In elderly patients, and in patients with impaired renal function, GBP plasma clearance is reduced. GBP can be removed from plasma by hemodialysis.
